Automated Information

CityRail has very little in the way of automated information. DVA, generally, has to be controlled manually by station staff, an unfortunate result of this is that when a station is unattended, no recorded information is available. The only exceptions to this are the Airport Line, and Olympic Park station, which do operate automatically off track circuits. "Talking Bricks" also do not exist on the CityRail network. However, commuter telephones can be found on the interurban routes. By pressing a button on the telephone, you are transferred through to the station controlled that area.

CityRail's only form on "push button" information comes in the form of a commuter telephone. This is one such example, taken at Bell.

The DVA and SPI at Olympic Park operate in conjunction with each other. The announcements play automatically, and are activated by either the track circuits as a train approaches, or by changes in the SPI display. The announcement will also say exactly displayed, ie, ...."goes to Clyde, stopping at all stations".
