Founded in 1777, San Jose is the eleveth largest city in the United States. With a population of 918,000, San Jose is home so some of the worlds largest informaiton technology manufacturers, such as Cisco, IBM, Adobe and Hitachi, and is a vital employer in the state of California. Transport in San Jose (and the Santa Clara County which San Jose is located in) is managed by the VTA (Valley Transportation Authority). It provides an extensive bus service, and one of North America's largest and most modern light rail systems. Caltrain also provides a commuter service to San Francisco. While the light rail system has recently undergone massive expansion, plans are underway to extend the BART rail network into the Santa Clara area, ensuring San Franciscans know the way to San Jose.
