Although Perth was the last Australian state to introduce electric trains, it now boasts one of the most modern fleets. Forty eight 2 car air conditioned sets provide a frequent service between Midland, Clarkson, Fremantle and Armadale. Extensions of the network are currently underway for a spur line off the Armadale line to Thornlie, and from Perth to Rockingham. 31 three car sets and currently being constructed and delivered to meet the needs of these new lines.

Passenger Information Modules

On the Passenger Information Module there are up to two pushbuttons (depending on the type on station it is at), one labelled FOR TRAINS TO PERTH and the other FOR TRAINS FROM PERTH. Pressing either of these will announce a prerecorded message with real time inserted times, e.g. "The next train to Perth is due in 3 minutes. It stops all stations to Bayswater then express to Perth." It provides up to date timing and stopping patterns.
For enquiries to a "live" operator, there is a third button labelled INFOLINE which when pressed will connect through to a Transperth operator for general information related to train and bus timetables . Passengers use a telephone built into the PIM. This telephone also doubles as an emergency telephone and by pressing a fourth button coloured red, passengers in distress are connected to an operator.
